The Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) will host the fifth Regional Intergovernmental Conference on Ageing and the Rights of Older Persons in Latin America and the Caribbean, from 13 to 15 December 2022. High-level representatives of governments, international institutions, the private sector, academia and civil society will meet to identify the achievements and challenges of the region in the implementation of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Aging (MIPAA), and in the construction of a decent future for the aging and older persons in Latin America and the Caribbean.
The meeting will be the framework for the fourth review and appraisal of the implementation of MIPAA, which at the global level will take place in 2023 within the framework of the 61st session of the United Nations Commission for Social Development.
During the Conference, ECLAC will present the regional report on the implementation and evaluation of MIPAA and the countries will present their national reports on the implementation of the said Plan.
The fifth Conference will be held in a hybrid, in-person and virtual, format at the headquarters of the regional organization of the United Nations, located in Santiago, Chile. The Government of Chile will assume the Presidency of the Conference, which since 2017 has been held by Paraguay. The Conference is supported by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
More logistical and substantive information on the meeting will be released in the coming weeks.
